Border Fest

Hidalgo Bordefest began in 1976 when the festival celebrated the American Bicentennial by commemorating the local border culture, the international setting, and the unique community spirit. Now, this community-wide event is celebrated each year on the first full weekend in March. Hidalgo Borderfest is a three-day plus extravaganza staged by the City of Hidalgo.

Over the years, Hidalgo Borderfest has transformed into a global event celebrating a different country or culture each year. Entertainment and exhibits from these countries provide greater experiences and educational opportunities as the borders are expanded, and Hidalgo Borderfest raises its bar of excellence.

In keeping with Hidalgo Borderfest’s mission of cultural enrichment, arts, education, and heritage preservation, a state-accepted curriculum written by local teachers is provided to students from our local school districts to enhance their experience of the festival during their field trip.

Everyone will have a great time with singing, dancing, arts and crafts, three parades (one daytime and 2 nightly illuminated parades), kids’ activities, a sea of food of all kinds, a full carnival, and continuous family fun - all the things that make the Rio Grande Valley such a special place, and Hidalgo Borderfest such a memorable experience. Thousands of volunteers, local residents, and international visitors come to the Rio Grande Valley to experience the ultimate celebration of community.
